so we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. for what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

this day, i am thankful.

i am thankful for a sovereign, forgiving, faithful, loving, powerful God.

i am thankful for my parents and the love, care, perseverance, patience and strength that they have, that they never give up on me.
i am thankful for my beautiful, lively little sisters.
i am thankful for my friends, the people that love me, challenge me, help me, bring me joy.
i am thankful for the boy who changed everything, who continues to encourage me and love me and be real with me and challenge me every single day.
i am thankful for laughter. i am thankful for big hugs and mashed potatoes and warm blankets and tea. i am thankful for sparkling cider and little kids and books and my cats. i am thankful for redemption and grace.

i am thankful for this day that the Lord has made, i will rejoice and be glad in it.

if life is just one ridiculous attempt to stay alive after another, i'm doing pretty good.
and if life is a contest to see who can procrastinate the most, and be the most laziest, i'm also doing pretty good.
and if life was created for the dreamers, to stand by and watch from the sidelines while hoping they get an opportunity thrown at them, i'm not doing too bad.
but if life is about doing and being and thriving and searching and telling and helping and loving, i've got some work to do.

and do work, i will.

simple.

fear God and keep his commandments.
--ecclesiastes 12:13

again, i'm amazed.

the human system of blood vessels - arteries, veins and capillaries - is over 60,000 miles long. that's long enough to go around the diameter of the world more than twice.

blood takes about 20 seconds to circulate throughout the entire system. the human heart creates enough pressure when it pumps, to squirt out blood 30 feet high and pumps nearly five quarts of blood through the body every 60 seconds.

the human eye is composed of more than two million working parts can distinguish 500 shades of gray

the skin contains approximately 640,000 sense receptors

six billion steps of DNA are contained in a single cell. this DNA can be stretched six feet, but it is coiled up in the cell's nucleus, which measures only 1/2500 of an inch in diameter

the acid in your stomach is strong enough to dissolve razor blades

each time we blink, our brain kicks in and keeps things illuminated so the whole world doesn’t go dark each time we blink, which adds up to be about 20,000 times a day.

the human brain has a raw computational power between 1013 and 1016 operations per second.

what the...

"where a lack of desire for communication with God pervades, no communion with God will exist."

chance? no stinkin way.

how great is our God?

it would take 23 years 105 days to get from Earth to Pluto (which is 3.57 billion miles away) on the fastest space shuttle.

the earth is 7,925 miles in diameter. the diameter of the sun is about 109 times greater than that of Earth, at 864,330 miles.

Our Milky Way galaxy of stars is so huge that even at the speed of light, which is 299,792,458 meters/second, it would take over 100,000 years to travel across it.

The Pleiades star cluster is 24 quadrillion miles away from earth. not 24 billion, not 24 trillion. 24 quadrillion.

how small do you feel right now?

but even more,
how great is our God.

If I am capable of grasping God objectively, I do not believe, but precisely because I cannot do this I must believe.
--Soren Kierkegaard

daaaaang.

not afraid

But you, O Lord, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head. I cried aloud to the Lord, and he answered me from his holy hill. I lay down and slept; I woke again, for the LORD sustained me. I will not be afraid of many thousands of swords coming at me from every side.
--psalm 3:6
Father, hide our hearts in you
lest we steal them back
and lay them at the feet of men
i know now that glory has not a place
near my hands or any man
